WinZip is a shareware piece of software used for archiving and compressing files. Developed for use in computers running Windows Operating system, MacOS, IOS, and Android devices, Winzip was created by Corel Corporation and first released in 1991. As an archiving software, it supports a variety of features responsible for packing and unpacking files. It supports the creation of ZIP and ZIPX files, thus minimizing the amount of memory used. Winzip is also used to decompress file formats such as BZ2, LHA, LZH, RAR, ZIP, Zipx, and 7Z. With the new advancements in technology, different encoding schemes are used to encode files. Winzip supports the decoding of B64, HQX, and UUE file formats. Important features that are also supported by Winzip include writing compressed files on CD/DVD, FTP uploads and archiving email files. Winzip also comes with a "classical" interface that offers more advanced features that are not present in the Winzip wizard. They include: Splitting of large archived files to overcome email limits, encryption of private documents, and locating a particular piece of data in a zipped repository.
